As one of the very first Honey Partners, we have enjoyed a long-standing licensing partnership with Fairtrade Germany.
Support beekeeping projects worldwide
A special feature of our range is the Breitsamer Fair Trade Breakfast range. These honeys do not come from Europe, but are sourced from small-scale beekeepers in South and Central America. The fact that they are produced in accordance with Fairtrade standards – as indicated to consumers by the Fairtrade mark – is what makes the difference here. For us, as a family business, this is a compelling reason to include honey from Latin America in our range. In accordance with Fairtrade standards, beekeepers receive a fixed minimum price for their honey, long-term purchase contracts and opportunities for co-determination within the co-operative. Our honeys bearing the Fairtrade mark are certified to the latest Fairtrade standards. We source the honey from the co-operatives under fixed pricing and premium arrangements in accordance with the applicable Fairtrade standards.
Honey as a source of income
Honey is an artisanal product and beekeeping offers people – even without land ownership – a source of income that secures their livelihood. In addition, beekeeping also offers good opportunities as a sideline, for example for coffee farmers, to secure income and, if necessary, to compensate for harvest losses. Not to be neglected are also higher harvests of crops such as coffee due to the pollination performance of bees. All this has prompted us to convert the honeys previously known as Beekeeper’s Gold to Fairtrade quality.
As with all Breitsamer honeys, the consumer learns on each jar the specific origin of the honey, which has been apicultured in Latin America.

30 years of Fairtrade at Breitsamer
For 30 years, we have been working as a Fairtrade partner to promote honey from Latin America. This anniversary symbolises our long-standing collaboration, the partnerships we have built up over the years, and our ongoing commitment to fair trade.
We would like to thank Fairtrade Germany, the local beekeepers and all our partners who are working with us to shape this journey. We look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future.
