In Zambia, indoor air pollution is one of the greatest health risks. The pollution is often caused by cooking over an open fire.
As part of this climate protection project, efficient cookstoves were distributed to households in Zambia that used open wood fires as an energy source. The project also created local jobs and provided around 45,000 households per year with access to a cookstove.
These efficient cookstoves make better use of biomass fuels and help to reduce greenhouse gas and particulate matter emissions. At the same time, they improve indoor air quality.
Lower exposure to smoke can reduce health risks. Families can save time and money as they need less fuel. The cookstove projects in the ClimatePartner portfolio are registered in accordance with international standards.
